Quality Assurance and Control Specialist

Join a leading organization and make a positive impact in the sustainable use of natural resources. Together, we will drive innovation and improve our customers' energy and water efficiency.

As a Quality Assurance and Control Specialist, you will play a crucial role in controlling and verifying the quality of mechanical, welding, and surface coating activities within the workshop. You will be responsible for ensuring that all tasks are completed in line with specifications, standards, and customer requirements – maintaining high quality standards across component refurbishments and repairs.

This role involves monitoring work processes, performing inspections at key stages, maintaining records, and providing feedback to the workshop team and supervisors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee and verify the quality of mechanical repair, rebuild, and refurbishment during workshop operations – including crushers, screens, gearboxes, slurry pumps, pulleys, and drives.
  • Perform in-process and final inspections of mechanical work, ensuring all tolerances, specifications, and quality requirements are met.
  • Conduct welding inspections in line with applicable standards and procedures – including visual inspection, dimensional checks, weld mapping, and review of welding records.
  • Inspect surface preparation and protective coatings – including environmental monitoring, surface profile checks, dry film thickness readings, and adhesion testing.
  • Manage calibration and maintenance records for precision measuring, NDT, and inspection equipment.
  • Complete and maintain inspection plans, manufacturer data reports, characteristic record sheets, weld and coatings inspection reports, and quality records in designated job files.
  • Log non-conformances, defects, and feedback reports via the feedback portal and manage corrective actions through to closure.
  • Liaise with third-party contractors for NDT, welding qualifications, and coating inspections when required.
  • Read and interpret technical drawings, OEM specifications, weld procedures, coatings data sheets, and job instructions.
  • Provide clear and detailed inspection findings and quality feedback to coordinators, leading hands, and the engineering team.
  • Monitor workshop compliance with quality standards, procedures, and customer specifications.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within the workshop quality assurance and control function.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

You're a proactive and detail-oriented professional with strong experience in workshop-based mechanical, welding, and coatings quality control. You have a sound understanding of OEM mining equipment refurbishments and a practical, collaborative approach to maintaining high standards.

  • Mechanical Trade Certificate (Fitting & Machining, Boilermaking) or Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical).
  • Coating and/or welding inspection qualifications (ACQPA, NACE/AMPP, CSWIP 3.0/3.1, WTIA or equivalent) – highly regarded.
  • Proven quality assurance and control inspection experience in workshop repair, rebuild, or manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of mining OEM equipment and workshop refurbishment workflows.
  • Current driver's license.
  • Current forklift certificate/license.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools and quality documentation processes.
  • Sound computer literacy (Microsoft Word, Excel, and digital quality systems).
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and teamwork skills.
