Your Responsibilities
In this hands-on role, you will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, overseeing and advancing a research and development initiative within our laboratory. Your responsibilities will encompass:
- Providing technical leadership and direction to a team of physicists and engineers.
- Designing and prototyping optical, mechanical, and electronic subsystems.
- Optimizing and ruggedizing atomic sensors for practical applications.
- Integrating, optimizing, and deploying atomic sensors in real-world scenarios.
Qualifications
Your background is less important than your ability to learn rapidly and demonstrate the following competencies:
- PhD in atomic, molecular, or quantum physics, along with a minimum of 3 years of relevant academic or industry experience.
- Experience with laser spectroscopy, laser cooling, and atom interferometry of atomic species.
- Proficiency in programming and automation, with a preference for Python in lab instrumentation, control systems, and data analysis.
- Expertise in ultra-high vacuum systems.
- Familiarity with narrow linewidth lasers and frequency stabilization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of working independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to obtain the necessary Australian government security clearance within a reasonable timeframe is preferred.
This is a full-time position based in Melbourne, Australia.
