Job Overview

  • The successful candidate will have expertise in hydrology, waterways, and drainage engineering, with strong technical skills in surface water modeling tools such as RORB, TUFLOW, DRAINS, and HEC-RAS.
Responsibilities

The Senior Waterways and Drainage Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Preparing engineering studies in hydrology, waterways, and drainage;
  • Developing innovative technical solutions for complex bridge, culvert, floodway, waterway, wetland, and stormwater network designs from planning to detail;
  • Maintaining proficiency in 12D and DRAINS skills for detailed drainage and stormwater design;
  • Coordinating and supervising project teams – briefing, assigning, monitoring, reviewing, and providing feedback;
  • Deliivering creative solutions balancing technical needs, community expectations, and client goals;
  • Engaging with GHD's Global Storm and Surface Water Service Line for ongoing development and knowledge sharing;
  • Builiding and maintaining professional networks to support technical and industry knowledge sharing;
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders to ensure quality client experiences and repeat business;
  • Preparing high-quality project reports and digital deliverables to professional standards;
  • Managing project budgets, schedules, and deliverables per GHD's project delivery and QA systems;
  • Mentoring and supporting junior team members' technical development;
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline;
  • 6-10+ years of experience in waterways, hydrology, or drainage engineering, including exposure to large infrastructure projects;
  • Proficiency in 12D, DRAINS, RORB, TUFLOW, HEC-RAS, and other relevant hydraulic and hydrologic modeling tools;
  • Strong experience in client-facing roles and multidisciplinary project coordination;
  • Working knowledge of relevant Australian standards, ARR 2019, Austroads guidelines, and local authority requirements;
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality technical work within project timeframes and budgets;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) status or working toward accreditation is highly regarded;
