Data Center Operations Specialist

We are seeking a skilled professional to join our team as a Data Center Operations Specialist. This is a critical role that involves the installation, configuration, and maintenance of data center infrastructure.

As a Data Center Operations Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our data centers. This includes receiving, unpacking, and moving servers and other equipment to the data center floor, installing, cabling, and maintaining servers, network switches, and power distribution units (PDUs) in racks, performing hardware-level bring-up and testing using Linux command-line tools, and ensuring proper accountability for equipment and assets through inventory management.

This role also involves troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues related to rack and node failures, running scripts to debug and repair rack cabling and other hardware problems, creating, updating, and resolving tickets in our ticketing system to document all work, and participating in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for data center operations.

In addition to these responsibilities, this role requires collaboration with other engineering teams to design and implement data center upgrades and expansions, developing and maintaining technical documentation, including diagrams and procedures, to ensure operational consistency, and ensuring compliance with data center standards, policies, and procedures.

  • This role requires strong knowledge of data center infrastructure, including servers, storage systems, and network devices, experience with data center management software, such as DCIM or BMS, and strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills are essential for success in this role, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • A strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records are also required, as well as experience with scripting languages, such as Python or Bash, familiarity with virtualization technologies, such as Kubernetes, advanced fiber optic cabling skills, and intermediate Linux skills.
  • An intrinsic curiosity and drive to stay up-to-date with the latest technologies and trends in data center infrastructure and operations are essential for long-term success in this role.
