Dynamic Sport and Recreation Educator Wanted

About the Role
We are seeking a passionate educator to teach Sport and Recreation programs to students aged 15-18 in a unique and supportive environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in teaching PE/Health and/or Vet Sport and Recreation in a school setting, and be able to deliver practical and engaging lessons that promote teamwork, fitness, and leadership skills.
The college works closely with the Youth Justice Precinct and Secure Care Units in Melbourne's West, providing education in a trauma-informed and culturally responsive framework. Teachers employ High Impact Engagement Strategies (HIES) and High Impact Teaching Strategies (HITS) to encourage student growth and development.
Responsibilities- Deliver VET Sport and Recreation Curriculum, focusing on practical skills and industry knowledge.
- Lead physical activities, fitness testing, first aid, event setup, and coaching exercises aligned with real-world sport and recreation roles.
- Embed teamwork, communication, leadership, and customer service skills to prepare students for work in gyms, community programs, or sporting organisations.
- Conduct and record assessments in accordance with VCAA and RTO standards, ensuring students meet all unit outcomes.
- Guide students in organising school-based sporting events, applying risk management and planning principles.
- Use applied, hands-on approaches to engage students, particularly those more responsive to physical and experiential learning.
- Provide career advice and support progression into apprenticeships, traineeships, or further study in sport, fitness, or recreation.
- Model and teach safe practices, including OH&S procedures and emergency response protocols in sport and fitness settings.
- Must have unrestricted working rights in Australia
- Current VIT registration
- Demonstrate previous experience in teaching Secondary PE/Health and/or Vet Sport and Recreation in a school setting in Australia/NZ
- Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable).
- Small classes of 5-8 students with a Youth Justice member present at all times
- Brand new facilities including an indoor gym, outside play spaces and a weights gym
- Dedicated well-being team for the teachers
- No after-school meetings
- Work within a Sport/PE specialist teaching team
- Collaborating with approachable and transparent leadership
The College is dedicated to providing education in a unique environment focused on helping students develop and change their trajectories. Teachers employ HIES and HITS within a Trauma-Informed and Culturally Responsive framework, encouraging students to grow as individuals.
To support staff, the College has integrated wellbeing programs that address the stresses of teaching. Teachers meet biweekly in wellbeing groups led by a clinician and can access individual sessions with the wellbeing team. Self-care plans are also developed to help mitigate stress and prevent burnout.
