We are an ambitious cyanobacterial biologics platform company seeking an outstanding candidate for the role of Research Scientist. As a highly-motivated individual, you will specialise in design, development, delivery and testing of novel cyanobacterial biologics, including monoclonal antibodies, VLP vaccines, & therapeutic proteins. You will tackle a range of challenges as an integral part of the team, and demonstrate a high degree of flexibility, creativity, and initiative. You will have team leadership experience, be adaptable, work well collaboratively, and be able to thrive in a start-up environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Development of genetic designs in collaboration with CTO
- Creation & execution of genetic design strategies, including:
- Design of genetic biologic expression components
- Design of plasmids; Management of build & verification process
- Management of cyanobacteria strain pipeline, including sequence verification
- Working with downstream processing lead to coordinate analysis pipeline
- Support in vitro & preclinical evaluation of biologics, in collaboration with R&D team & CTO
- Updating CTO and Executive on status and timelines for biologics & preclinical material preparation
- Management of lab resources; overseeing smooth functioning of the strain engineering pipeline
- Managing preclinical material production, in collaboration preclinical testing collaborators
Education & Experience
Critical
- Ph.D. in Bioengineering, Synthetic Biology, Immunology, Microbiology, or closely-related area,
- Competent in microorganism design; hands-on experience with the latest genetic engineering tools, including multi-fragment DNA assembly, cloning, and prokaryotic transformation essential
Advantageous but not essential:
- Industrial/postdoctoral lab experience within biotechnology, immunology, vaccine development or therapeutics
- Experience engineering cyanobacteria
- VLP, mAb and therapeutic protein expression, purification, delivery or testing
- ELISA-based testing & in vitro/in vivo therapeutic characterisation
- Experience with mammalian cell culture & mAb expression
- Conducted preclinical development studies of mAbs, vaccines or therapeutic proteins
- Experience using computational tools for protein design
