Overview

18 Month Fixed Term/Part-time AOD Peer Worker (0.5 FTE) role working 40 hours per fortnight from 3:00pm to 11:30pm.

A wonderful opportunity has risen for an AOD Peer Worker to join our team at our 66 bed AOD Rehabilitation Facility located at Maryknoll (10 minutes from Pakenham).

As our AOD Peer Worker you will help residents in the AOD withdrawal program by sharing your lived experience of treatment and recovery from substance use. We recognise the strength, courage, and unique perspective of people with lived experience of alcohol and other drugs and believe peer support is a powerful part of the recovery journey.

We are looking for Fixed Term/Part-time (0.52 FTE) AOD Peer Worker to join our team at our Maryknoll Therapeutic Community working 40 hours per fortnight as per roster below.

Week 1

Tuesday: 15:00 – 11:30pm

Week 2

Friday: 15:00 – 11:30pm

Saturday: 15:00 – 11:30pm

Monday: 15:00 – 11:30pm

Thursday: 15:00 – 11:30pm

- Draw upon your own lived experience to help others and be supported by a skilled, multidiscipline team that provide a full suite of AOD treatments.
- Assist with delivery of program material from the perspective of peer with a successful treatment experience.
- Provide support and encouragement primarily to residents, and to people on the waitlist, the preadmission group, as well as clients in aftercare.
- Provide basic support to clients according to established treatment plans.
- Contribute to a positive work environment by promoting integrity and professionalism and presenting a professional image likely to build safety, confidence, and trust.
- Provide support for offsite visits.

What we/'re looking for

- Lived alcohol and drug experience, with preference to participating in treatment at an accredited Therapeutic Community.
- A minimum of 2 years successfully engaged in work, volunteering or study after graduating from an AOD residential program or other similar treatment service.
- High level of interpersonal and communication skills, including active listening skills and clear speaking skills, with an ability to tailor communicate style to suit the diversity of residents.
- Ability to maintain clear boundaries and engage in self-reflection.
- Ideally a Diploma in AOD and Mental Health or the willingness to complete AOD Skillset whilst in employment.
