Responsibilities

- Conduct thorough assessments of children and families involved in public and private law proceedings, ensuring safeguarding is central.

- Ensure the voice of the child is prominent and well-represented by presenting their wishes and feelings to the court.

- Execute direct work with children through age-appropriate methods, fostering their engagement in court processes.

- Provide well-substantiated reports to the court, focusing primarily on the child’s welfare and well-being.

- Analyse data from various sources including local authorities and educational and health organisations to inform your reports.

- Attend and provide oral evidence in court when necessary, presenting professional recommendations about care and parental responsibilities.

- Collaborate effectively with local authorities, legal representatives, health services, and voluntary groups to ensure child-focused outcomes.

- Champion the child’s needs and rights, offering constructive challenge where necessary.

- Adhere to legislative frameworks such as the Children Act 1989 and Human Rights Act 1998, ensuring all practice is compliant.

- Keep accurate case records, ensuring they remain confidential and comply with data protection standards.

- Engage in professional supervision and reflective practice, contributing to personal and service development.
