Safety (WHS) Improvement Business Partner
3 days ago
Are you a practical, outcomes-focused HSE professional who enjoys solving complex challenges and influencing genuine improvement? Our client, a long-established leader in industrial services, is strengthening its safety capability across one of its major Sydney operations. They are seeking an experienced Safety Improvement Business Partner to play a pivotal role in shaping safer, smarter, and more sustainable ways of working.
This is not a desk-based compliance role – it is an opportunity to lead change where it matters most: on the ground, side by side with people who value authenticity, collaboration, and practical know-how.
About the Role
As the HSE Improvement Business Partner, you will support operations within a large, high-risk industrial facility – partnering with leaders, teams, and contractors to lift capability, reduce risk, and embed sustainable improvement.
Your work will combine hands‑on engagement with strategic thinking. You will analyse performance data, identify improvement opportunities, and lead initiatives that deliver measurable benefits to people, operations, and the environment.
- Partner for impact: Work closely with business leaders, frontline teams, and contractors to strengthen HSE culture and performance.
- Lead improvement: Review systems of work, identify risk trends, and deliver practical, data‑informed strategies that align with business goals.
- Coach and develop: Build capability through mentoring, training, and visible leadership that fosters ownership and accountability.
- Support and influence: Provide expert advice, lead investigations, and champion proactive safety and environmental management.
- Measure what matters: Collect and interpret HSE performance data to track progress and shape continuous improvement.
About You
You are a confident communicator and trusted advisor who brings both technical expertise and the ability to build strong, credible relationships at all levels. You thrive in fast‑paced, high‑risk environments and have a genuine drive to make a difference.
- At least five years of experience in HSE business partnering, advisory, or improvement roles.
- A proven record of leading safety and environmental improvement programs in sectors such as industrial services, manufacturing, mining, defence, or construction.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence and achieve outcomes across diverse teams and projects.
- Sound knowledge of WHS and environmental legislation, risk management frameworks, and industry best practice.
- Qualifications in occupational health and safety, environmental science, engineering, or a related discipline (preferred).
- Experience with continuous improvement tools such as Lean or Six Sigma (desirable).
Why Join
- Make a real difference: Lead programs that directly improve safety, wellbeing, and environmental performance.
- Autonomy and support: Operate with independence, backed by a leadership team committed to improvement.
- Variety and challenge: Work across a diverse and technically complex operation where no two days are the same.
- Collaborative culture: Join a team that values practical solutions, shared success, and professional development.
If this sounds like the opportunity you have been looking for, we would love to hear from you.
Please apply via Seek or send your CV and a short cover letter outlining your interest to scoldicutt@thesafestep.com.au.
