The Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) is the leading advocate for surgical standards, professionalism and surgical education in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand. The College is a not-for-profit organisation that represents more than 8600 surgeons and 1300 surgical trainees and Specialist International Medical Graduates.

RACS also supports healthcare and surgical education in the Asia-Pacific region and is a substantial funder of surgical research. There are nine surgical specialties in Australasia being: Cardiothoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Orthopaedic Surgery, Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, Paediatric Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Urology and Vascular Surgery.

About the role

In this role, your primary focus is to deliver the federally funded project under the Flexible Approach to Training in Rural Setting (FATES 1) - ‘Rural Accreditation – addressing barriers to rural specialist training’.

You will help plan and run the project, track its progress, and make sure the work is done on time and on budget. You’ll also help share research findings about the challenges rural hospitals face when trying to become accredited for training, and you’ll work with a wide range of stakeholders—both inside and outside the College. Duties include;

• Keep the project running smoothly by scheduling tasks, managing deadlines, and keeping an eye on the budget.

• Bring together input from different teams and outside consultants to make sure the project goals are met.

• Help communicate project progress to executives, working groups, and external partners.

• Write up reports and research findings in plain language to share with stakeholders.

• Work with others to promote the project and keep everyone informed.

• Support meetings by preparing agendas and taking minutes.

Skills and Experience

• A degree and/or relevant experience in project coordination, research, or a health-related field.

• Experience working in health, education, or government settings—especially with accreditation processes—is advantageous.

• Strong organisational and time management skills.

• Good writing and communication skills—you’ll need to prepare reports, write meeting notes, and explain findings clearly.

• Comfortable working with others and able to work across teams.

This role is full time on a maximum term contract until 31 December 2025.
