Position Summary

The Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and presenting all menu items freshly to order, ensuring each dish reflects the quality standards and culinary identity of Eureka Pizza. This role requires strong technical cooking ability, a deep understanding of ingredients, and a commitment to precision and consistency in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen environment.

Responsibilities

- Prepare, cook, and present a wide range of dishes—including pizzas, pastas, grilled items, and bistro-style meals—crafted freshly from raw ingredients to order, ensuring no reliance on pre-prepared or processed foods.

- Demonstrate advanced culinary techniques, precision, and creativity to deliver consistently high-quality dishes in alignment with Eureka Bistro’s established recipes, portion standards, and presentation guidelines.

- Oversee all stages of food preparation, ensuring the use of fresh produce and adherence to proper storage, rotation, and inventory management to maintain ingredient quality and minimize wastage.

- Exercise sound judgment in seasoning, cooking temperatures, and timing to achieve optimal texture, flavour balance, and visual appeal for every dish served.

- Operate and maintain a range of commercial kitchen equipment, including wood-fired pizza ovens, grills, fryers, and other appliances, in a safe and efficient manner.

- Collaborate closely with the Head Chef and broader kitchen team to ensure seamless coordination of kitchen operations and timely service delivery during high-volume periods.

- Uphold the highest standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness, ensuring compliance with HACCP principles, Safe Food Australia guidelines, and internal quality assurance procedures.

- Contribute to menu development by proposing seasonal specials and recipe improvements aligned with customer preferences and the restaurant’s culinary direction.

- Monitor inventory and assist in procurement activities, verifying the quality, quantity, and condition of supplies upon delivery.

- Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to junior kitchen staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.

- Maintain strict compliance with workplace health and safety protocols, reporting potential hazards, equipment malfunctions, or supply shortages promptly to management.

- Consistently uphold the reputation of Eureka Bistro by delivering food of exceptional quality, prepared entirely on-site with craftsmanship, precision, and genuine culinary expertise.

Qualifications

Essential:

- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery

- Minimum 1 year of experience as a Cook in a restaurant, bistro, or pizzeria environment.

- Strong understanding of food preparation techniques, portion control, and presentation standards

- Knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices (HACCP)

- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen

- Team player with good communication and time-management skills

Desirable:

- Experience with pizza preparation and operation of wood-fired or deck ovens

- Familiarity with Australian café/bistro cuisine

- Menu innovation and cost-control awareness
