Overview

We're supporting a global Defence industry organisation based in Melbourne, and they're looking to bring on an experienced Accountant to support local operations.

You'll be responsible for a broad range of finance functions, including transaction processing, month-end close, audit support, and assisting with payroll and accounts. You'll be part of a small but capable team, working on-site and hands-on from day one.

Highlights

- Working schedule: Full-time, on-site in Melbourne SE Suburbs

- Contract Length: Initial 3 month contract

- Start: ASAP

What you'll be doing

- Record financial transactions and prepare schedules following AASB, internal policy, and corporate standards

- Assist with month-end close and financial reporting

- Help support internal, external, and tax audits

- Maintain internal control documentation and policies

- Analyse and reconcile balance sheet accounts

- Work cross-functionally with HR on payroll and timecard inquiries

- Cross-train in AP, AR, and Payroll as backup support

- Engage with stakeholders to ensure accurate financial and tax outcomes

The skills we are seeking

- Bachelor's degree in Accounting (or equivalent)

- 5+ years of professional accounting experience

- Comfortable handling transactions, reconciliations, and month-end

- Able to support audits and maintain internal controls

- Strong Excel skills and familiarity with ERP/accounting systems

- Analytical mindset and solid documentation skills

Bonus points for

- CPA qualification

- Experience across AP, AR and Payroll

- Proven experience applying Australian tax standards and regulations

- Familiarity with Australian accounting standards (AASB)

This role would suit a capable all-rounder who enjoys variety, takes pride in accurate reporting, and is ready to join a stable and growing team. You'll be working closely with both local and international stakeholders - so clear communication and a collaborative attitude are essential.
