About the Role
Full Time: 1.0 FTE
Location: Finley High School
School psychologists are essential to the Department’s school counselling service. They provide counselling and psychological assessment of students to strengthen learning and wellbeing outcomes and help families manage their children’s mental health needs.
The successful candidate will work across the lifespan with primary and high school aged students, collaborating with school communities, colleagues and external agencies.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide individual and group counselling and short‑term therapeutic interventions.
- Implement the NSW School Counselling Service Professional Practice Framework.
- Consult with the principal, staff and support services to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes.
- Administer cognitive, social, emotional and behavioural assessment of students and report on results.
- Collaborate with learning and support teams, parents, carers and agencies to develop appropriate school‑based support.
- Assist schools experiencing serious incidents and refer students to other agencies as needed.
Essential Requirements
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy.
- General or Provisional Psychology Registration with active internship with the Psychology Board of Australia.
- Current Working with Children Check clearance.
- Current and valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel between work sites.
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency.

The following questions must be addressed (half a page each):
- Experience in counselling using evidence‑based interventions with a demonstrated understanding of the mental health needs of children and young people.
- Experience in the psychological assessment of children and young people, including case formulation and report writing.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with key stakeholders to improve the learning and wellbeing outcomes of children and young people, including students from diverse backgrounds and needs.
