About the Role
Full Time: 1.0 FTE
Commencing: 27 January 2026
School psychologists play a key role in supporting student learning and wellbeing. They provide individual and group counselling, conduct psychological assessments, collaborate with teachers, parents and external agencies, and contribute to school-based strategies for mental health and academic development.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide individual and group counselling, including short‑term therapeutic interventions within the scope of training and supervision.
- Implement the Professional Practice Framework for the NSW School Counselling Service and current departmental priorities.
- Collaborate with principals, school executive and support staff to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes.
- Administer cognitive, social, emotional and behavioural assessments, report results and collaborate to enhance learning, wellbeing and mental health outcomes.
- Work with parents, carers and agencies to deliver appropriate school‑based support for students.
- Assist schools experiencing serious incidents and refer students or families to other agencies as needed.
Essential Requirements
- Knowledge and commitment to the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG.
- General or provisional Psychology registration and active internship with the Psychology Board of Australia.
- Valid Working with Children Check clearance.
- Current and valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel between sites.
- Australian citizenship or permanent residency.

- Responses (half a page each) to the following questions:
- Experience in counselling using evidence‑based interventions with children and young people.
- Experience in the psychological assessment of children and young people, including case formulation and report writing.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders to improve learning and wellbeing outcomes.
