Our client is a well-known Australian organisation that continues to grow, drive change, and shape the future of its industry. As part of their ongoing transformation, they are seeking a strategic and technically accomplished Head of Digital Engineering to lead their software and data engineering functions from their new Head Office in Sydney Olympic Park.
This is a pivotal leadership opportunity to shape the digital strategy, drive innovation, and leverage emerging technologies - including AI, machine learning, and advanced analytics - to enhance operational efficiency and sustainability.
About the Role
As Head of Digital Engineering, you will lead full stack software and data engineering teams to deliver scalable, secure, and cutting-edge digital solutions. You will play a key role in defining and executing the digital engineering roadmap, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead, mentor, and develop high-performing software and data engineering teams.
- Define and execute a forward-thinking digital engineering strategy aligned to business goals.
- Promote agile practices and a culture of learning, quality, and innovation.
Software & Data Platform Development
- Oversee the design, development, and deployment of bespoke software and data solutions.
- Ensure scalable, secure, and maintainable architectures across all platforms.
- Collaborate closely with business stakeholders to align technology with organisational needs.
Innovation & AI Integration
- Champion the exploration and adoption of AI/ML technologies to address complex business challenges.
- Lead prototyping and experimentation with emerging digital tools and platforms.
- Drive data-driven decision-making and predictive analytics initiatives.
Governance & Quality Assurance
- Establish best practices for software and data engineering, testing, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, data privacy, and regulatory requirements.
- Promote engineering excellence and continuous delivery standards.
Tech Environment
- AWS Services: Lambda, S3, Glue, ECS, CloudFormation, CDK, API Gateway, IAM, CloudWatch
- Infrastructure as Code: AWS CDK, Terraform (advantageous)
- CI/CD & DevOps: GitHub Actions, Docker, AWS CodePipeline
- Languages & Frameworks: Python, Node.js, TypeScript, JavaScript, React.js, Angular, React Native
- API Development: RESTful APIs, GraphQL
- ETL & Orchestration: AWS Glue, Apache Airflow, dbt
- Data Warehousing: Snowflake, PostgreSQL, SQL Server
- Architecture: Microservices, event-driven design patterns

- Proven experience leading software and data engineering teams in a commercial environment.
- Deep technical expertise in full stack development, cloud-native platforms, and modern data ecosystems.
- Strong capability in technical strategy, architecture design, code quality, and mentoring.
- Demonstrated success delivering bespoke digital and data solutions that drive business value.
- Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Experience applying AI/ML technologies in real-world use cases.
- Thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments.
