Overview
Division: Independent Public School - North Metropolitan Education Region
Salary: Teacher, $85,610 - $124,046 per annum (pro-rata) (SEA GA 2023)
This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 1, 2026
Ellenbrook Secondary College (SC) seeks to support and encourage students to foster a sense of self-worth, respect, and confidence. This comes from setting high standards for achievement and having caring, knowledgeable staff that support our students to reach their goals - both academically and personally. We believe quality educators are the foundation on which a school is built.
We are a PBS school where we strive to create a positive and safe learning environment and culture for all members of the Ellenbrook SC community. We explicitly teach positive behaviours and shared expectations to promote the skills, high quality teaching and differentiated learning opportunities, that empower our staff and students to become productive members of the community.
In addition to their studies, students are welcome and encouraged to join one of our many after school or lunch time clubs. These cater for a range of interests and passions and assist in developing a culture of belonging and respect. Many of these groups are based within the Arts as we encourage students to develop their sense of identity through creativity. Our Arts department runs an annual production, alternating theatre and musical and our Music students are engaged in semesterly showcases. In addition to these, there are a variety of sporting teams available, and through our collegiate approach, these events and teams are celebrated across the College.
The Role
We seek a passionate and dedicated Music teacher to join our team, with a focus on contemporary and general music. As we are a school that offers a Certificate III in Music Industries, a qualification to deliver this course is a key component of this role and is highly recommended that you have the ability to do so before applying. In addition to the Certificate pathway, we also offer Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Music and therefore a skillset in both pathways is desired. We are a Specialist Music and Voice school and commence our students on their secondary musical journey in Year 7, developing the skills they have learnt in primary school. It is here that we wish to have the right teacher and leader to maintain their passion and develop their instrumental skills and understanding of the concepts within music theory. We also offer audition processes to students who would like to start their music journey within a range of instruments.
The successful applicant should have a passion for secondary education and the desire to impart their skills and knowledge to adolescent students. You should be self-motivated and prepared to embrace new opportunities enthusiastically. The Arts learning area readily engages in a number of extra-curricular activities and music is heavily involved in this requiring a determined level of commitment from the Arts team.
As an Instrumental Music School Services (IMSS) school, the successful applicant should have an excellent capacity to communicate clearly and concisely with staff, students and their parents about the expectations and coordination of their music studies and instrumental lesson requirements. The music teacher-in-charge will also be a fundamental conduit between the college and the community to be able to articulate a clear vision that complements and supports the College’s excellent culture in teaching and learning, while presenting music performances to the parents and community. This would include holding events and attending special events through our community partnerships including our ANZAC day practices in collaboration with the RSLWA.
You will ideally have previous success with teaching students Music in a secondary school and experience in IMSS management and performance set up and coordination. High-level knowledge of the curriculum area and the ability to work in a team environment is highly desirable. Part of this role entails the coordination and upholding of the Specialist Music Program and the administrative tasks that this entails. There will be some time release to support these tasks.
