Offer Description

We are seeking an excellent speech pathology academic to provide leadership in teaching and research. This position will contribute to leading the Master of Speech and Language Pathology course and undertake research in speech pathology aligned with the Department of Linguistics and Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences.

- Salary Package: Senior Lecturer (Level C) from $150,714 to $173,323 p.a. or Associate Professor (Level D) from $181,003 - $199,094 p.a. plus 17% employer's superannuation and annual leave loading (appointment level will be commensurate with skills & experience).

The Role

We are seeking an excellent speech pathology academic to provide leadership in teaching and research. In this position, you will contribute to leading the Master of Speech and Language Pathology through outstanding teaching and future-focused curriculum design. You will also lead a vibrant program of research that is aligned with your expertise and relevant for speech pathology practice.

This position offers a unique opportunity for an experienced academic to engage in world-leading scholarship that leverages and combines their own strengths with those of the Master of Speech and Language Pathology, the Department of Linguistics, and the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences.

About You

You will have knowledge, skills and attributes that enable leadership in speech pathology education and research. You will have a sustained track record of delivering high quality education in courses/programs accredited by Speech Pathology Australia, including evidence of curriculum design that fosters students' development of competency in speech pathology practice. You will be able to provide intellectual, practical and cultural leadership in research, and you will have a strong track record of aligned scholarly outputs and recognition. You will have a considered and collaborative approach to your work, including a demonstrated ability to commence and grow relationships with key stakeholders in speech pathology education and research.

You will have been awarded a PhD, and may hold other qualifications relevant for your area(s) of teaching and research expertise. You will have a well-defined track record of scholarship that focuses on individuals and communities who have communication and/or swallowing needs. You will hold Certified Practising Membership of Speech Pathology Australia.

Within FMHHS, the Department of Linguistics hosts the Master of Speech and Language Pathology and the MQ Health Speech and Hearing Clinic. The Department of Linguistics delivers outstanding education in linguistics via the Bachelor of Speech and Hearing Sciences course, and postgraduate professional courses in translation and interpreting, applied linguistics and TESOL, audiology, and speech pathology. The Department of Linguistics conducts world-leading basic science research on language, hearing, and communication.

The Macquarie Master of Speech and Language Pathology (MSLP) develops speech pathologists who can employ a social perspective on health, and implement evidence-based and multifaceted approaches to optimising communication and swallowing. The Macquarie MSLP has also been recognised for its emphasis on applying theories of language and communication to speech pathology practice with communication disability, and its distinctive education about linguistic diversity.

The MQ Health Speech and Hearing Clinic provides a high-quality speech pathology and audiology services to the community and excellent clinical education for students of the MSLP and the Master of Clinical Audiology. It offers a comprehensive range of speech pathology and audiology services across the lifespan. The MQ Health Speech and Hearing Clinic is a registered provider of the NDIS, and it provides in-patient services via the Macquarie University Hospital.

Essential Criteria for All Applicants

- A PhD in speech pathology (or a cognate discipline) and Certified Practising Membership of Speech Pathology Australia;
- Excellence in speech pathology education, with a clearly articulated approach to competency development for speech pathology practice, and sustained evidence of high-quality student experiences;
- Success in leading curriculum design and implementation for speech pathology education in collaboration with relevant stakeholders;
- Success in creating new knowledge relevant for your discipline, with an according track record of high-quality impactful scholarly publications and grants; and
- Demonstrated ability to employ communication and negotiation skills to effect positive change in the communities relevant for the position, particularly in fulfilling administrative tasks of an academic department.

Essential Criteria for Applicants Seeking Appointment at Level D

- Sustained success with course/program leadership in speech pathology, with strong evidence of innovation in education relevant for contemporary speech pathology courses/programs; and
- Success with leading national and/or international teams in impactful programs of research.

Desirable Criteria for All Applicants

- Success with supervision of graduate research, focusing on candidates completing Master of Research (or equivalent) and PhD degrees;
- Recent successful experience with course/program accreditation carried out by Speech Pathology Australia; and
- Distinctive discipline expertise that aligns with the strengths of the Department of Linguistics and/or FMHHS.
