As Senior Chaplain, you’ll lead and mentor a team of chaplains and shape chaplaincy strategy across your region to provide meaningful pastoral care that strengthens staff, clients, and communities. You will be building relationships, guiding others in faith and wellbeing, and helping Mission Australia remain deeply connected to its Founding Purpose in everything we do.Your key responsibilities will be to:* Lead and inspire chaplains in your region by providing guidance, encouragement, and support so they can deliver consistent, high-quality chaplaincy services.* Shape chaplaincy strategy in partnership with the Chaplaincy leadership team to ensure services are future-focused, sustainable, and align with our Christian Founding Purpose.* Strengthen relationships with ministers’ associations, churches and Christian organisations to extend opportunities for collaboration and community strengthening.* Partner with Community Services and Housing leaders to embed chaplaincy into daily operations, ensuring staff wellbeing and decision-making are guided by our values.* Develop and mentor chaplains through coaching, training, and support in partnership with the Chaplaincy Practice Lead and Community Chaplaincy Program Lead.* Drive the scoping of new communities for expansion of Community Chaplaincy in collaboration with Community Services and/or Housing leadership.* Foster a culture of faith, openness, and reflection by creating safe spaces where staff and communities can share, grow, and be supported spiritually and socially.* Represent Mission Australia in the wider community by being a visible presence at events, services, and forums that demonstrate our values in action and support fundraising.**Requirements for success*** Ordination or formal recognition as a minister, pastor, or equivalent, supported by a relevant theological qualification and/or chaplaincy training.* Demonstrated experience in chaplaincy or pastoral care, with the ability to walk alongside people in both every day and complex life situations.* Proven leadership experience in mentoring, developing, and guiding others to grow in their ministry and professional practice.* Strong capacity to build trusted relationships across diverse groups, working cross-denominationally while maintaining a deep commitment to the Bible as God’s word.* Active personal faith and Christian maturity, reflected through commitment to personal spiritual growth and regular, active participation in a local church community.* Excellent communication and listening skills, with the ability to encourage reflection, offer counsel, explore options and promote values-based decision making.* Organisational and strategic thinking skills to manage chaplaincy services, support team needs, and contribute to broader organisational goals.* Flexibility to travel regularly across NSW, engaging with staff, churches, and communities to support strategy execution.Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications, and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people.**Your benefits*** Rewarding work – every day you know you’re making a real difference* Not-for-profit salary packaging, reducing your tax (details via )* Free external, confidential counselling and access to* Volunteering opportunities* Opportunity to purchase additional annual leave* Extra leave including: Mission Australia Thank You Day & Work Anniversary Day off**Our culture**Our innovative and inclusive culture will ensure you feel valued at Mission Australia as you help Australians in need and develop in your career.We prioritise the safety and wellbeing of everyone, both within our team and the individuals we serve.We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive working environment.
