Fixed term, full-time position for 32 months

The TERN Australia Soil and Herbarium Collection is a dynamic national archive of soil, vegetation and ant samples. Located at The University of Adelaide, Waite Campus, this resource provides key ecosystem research infrastructure for scientists and decision-makers. The collection includes over 180,000 curated samples and specimens including: soil pit samples, soil subsite samples, soil metagenomic samples, plant voucher specimens, plant tissue samples, and more recently, ant samples.

Working under general direction the TERN Surveillance Data Manager coordinates the full data lifecycle, from field data ingestion through to validation, curation, and quality control ensuring data are standards-compliant, quality assured, and accessible. Also, you will be required to maintain internal data registers, respond to data and sample requests, assist with managing the collection management system and promotes best practice in ecological data workflows across the team. The TERN Surveillance Data Manager will oversee the TERN Surveillance Collections Assistants work program including various collection and facility management tasks and has a key role in supervising and training volunteers and students.

To be successful you will need:

- Demonstrated experience in ecological data management including data collection, QA/QC, data workflow

- Demonstrated capabilities in collecting, storing, organising and utilising data to ensure its accuracy, completeness, security and accessibility.

- Experience in vegetation sampling techniques, herbarium specimen collection, preparation, management and storage.

- Demonstrated experience with computer database software and portable digital data devices.

- GIS experience including the production of maps and providing high level spatial analysis.

- Demonstrated high-level verbal and written communication skills including the ability to prepare correspondence for internal and external audiences, and reports for TERN Surveillance Leadership Team.

- Demonstrated ability to promote the organisational values of integrity, respect, collegiality, excellence and discovery, and a commitment to positively comply with the associated behaviour expectations.

Qualification/s:

- A degree with subsequent relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
