Murrindindi Shire Council has an exciting opportunity for a Youth and Community Development Officer to help us build a healthy, connected and inclusive community. With consultation, facilitation and project management skills you can help ensure young people are valued members of our community.

About this opportunity

In the Youth and Community Development Officer role, you will work closely with and support the young people of our community. In collaboration with young people, you will enjoy developing and managing programs designed to achieve outcomes to improve their wellbeing. You will also be able to understand and represent the needs of young people and be able to raise their voice within Council and community.

Working closely with government, schools, and the community sector, you will strive to create better conditions for young people within the Shire. You will:

- work closely with young people
- apply a broad range of community development principles including collaboration and capacity building
- design, deliver and evaluate programs and activities designed to achieve key outcomes
- understand the needs of young people
- represent young people within Council and community and enhance their voice
- collaborate with partners within a collective impact approach to service delivery

What you will bring

- Relevant experience and/or tertiary qualifications in youth work, community development, community engagement or a related discipline with a minimum 2 years program delivery experience.
- Proven understanding of youth development principles and practices incorporating the unique challenges experienced by young people in a rural context.
- Ability to work innovatively to respond to changing needs of young people and the community, incorporating a diverse and inclusive youth-led approach to program design and delivery.
- Demonstrated ability to strengthen and build the capacity of communities and support community driven initiatives in partnership with diverse stakeholders.
- Well-developed skills and experience in program design, delivery and group facilitation, including in a digital environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, organise and plan workflow, set priorities, manage a budget and meet deadlines to address the position’s key responsibility areas.
