The Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) is responsible for the supervision of children and young people in the Victorian criminal justice system. Youth Justice is responsible for overseeing services responding to children and young people in the criminal justice system, providing strategic advice and delivering strategic outcomes to address youth crime and reduce offending

The Community Operations & Practice Team provides leadership, oversight and advice to support the ongoing development of state-wide community-based youth justice services.

The Opportunity

  • Fixed term, full-time position until 30 June 2027 based in Melbourne.
  • VPS Grade 6 role: $138,631 - $185,518 per year plus superannuation.
  • Lead work to support the operations of the Victorian community youth justice system, including leading key initiatives and projects, and developing operational policies and procedures.
  • Provide advice on case management and practice matters regarding community based statutory youth justice, and more broadly to other senior stakeholders and work groups on youth justice related policy, operational and service development matters.
  • Project manage tasks, including consultation, timeframes and governance reporting, to ensure that objectives and commitments are met on time and within budget and quality requirements
  • Identify and respond to new and emerging complex and sensitive issues with system wide impacts involving a number of internal and external stakeholders and requiring integrated solutions across the department and other agencies

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Experience in, or knowledge of, the Youth Justice community environment and contemporary best practice in case management.
  • Experience working in senior VPS policy or operational roles.
  • Proven track record in public sector management and project or program delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of and/or experience in Victorian government administrative processes

You will be required to obtain a Working with Children Check, which you will need to maintain for the period of employment.
