We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 385,000 residents.
The role
The Community Development Officer - Disability leads inclusive community development initiatives in the Canterbury-Bankstown LGA to enhance accessibility, participation and mental wellbeing, especially for people with disability and those facing mental health challenges. The role involves community consultation, planning and delivering targeted programs and events that reduce stigma, improve access and promote inclusion. It supports service providers, fosters partnerships and strengthens networks to build community capacity. A key focus is developing and implementing the Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan and increasing community awareness of support systems like the NDIS, Carer Gateway and Head to Health, ultimately creating a more inclusive and connected community.
Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Events/Programs – Participate in the planning and implementation of a range of community development events and programs that benefit people with disability, carers and people with mental health challenges
- Policy – Develop, implement, report and review Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) and convene the internal CBCity DIAP Project Control Group
- Social Planning – Facilitate social planning sessions to identify local needs for people with disability and mental health challenges
- Networks and Committees – Convene relevant sector network meetings such as Council’s Universal Access Working Group, attend other relevant networks and participate in relevant working groups
- Grants Support – Assess disability-related applications in Council’s Community Grants Program
- Key Relationships - Local disability and mental health service providers and community organisations

You will have
- Tertiary qualifications in an appropriate field, preferably in the social sciences, health or humanities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of community development processes
- Experience conducting community consultations
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of a range of service and funding programs and experience in preparing funding submissions
- Experience in working with community groups and providing support and advice to service providers and residents preferably in relation to people with disability and their carers
- Demonstrated skills and experience in researching, developing, implementing, managing and evaluating community programs with a range of partners

The salary range for this opportunity starts at $93,583 (Grade G Step1) + 12% super. Salary may be negotiable dependent on skills and experience.
