Senior Aboriginal Engagement Officer, Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC). Ongoing role based in Sydney CBD with hybrid working options.
This is an identified role under section 14d of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 and Aboriginality is an essential requirement of the role.
About Us
The Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC) is an independent body exercising royal commission powers to detect, investigate and expose serious misconduct within the NSW Police Force (NSWPF) and the NSW Crime Commission (NSWCC). The LECC monitors and reviews complaints about conduct by these agencies and promotes prevention of officer misconduct and corruption. The LECC collaborates to educate and promote prevention, and undertakes independent monitoring of critical incident investigations where appropriate.
The Senior Aboriginal Engagement Officer is part of a small community engagement team within the Commission’s Prevention and Engagement team. The role is to engage and build relationships within Aboriginal communities, increase engagement with Aboriginal communities, and build organisational capacity to ensure access, equity and inclusion of Aboriginal people in a culturally appropriate way. The role may involve engaging people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds and other vulnerable communities. A small case load of oversight investigations may be handled to maintain understanding of the Commission’s jurisdiction and functions. Travel for outreach across NSW (including overnight stays) may be required from time to time.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with Aboriginal communities and build and maintain relationships to promote access, equity and inclusion in a culturally appropriate way.
- Work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and other vulnerable groups as required.

- Travel for outreach activities across NSW with possible overnight stays.
Qualifications and Experience
- Demonstrated ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples with appropriate cultural understanding, empathy and sensitivity.
- Qualifications or demonstrated experience in community engagement and project management, with a sound understanding of engagement principles and practices.
- Experience in engagement and liaison with Aboriginal communities.
- Highly developed communication skills (interpersonal, written and verbal) and the ability to develop collaborative partnerships.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with willingness to learn and share knowledge.
- Ability to supervise the work of other staff members.
- Strong organisational and time management skills and the ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to travel when required.
