Overview

Alfred Health is a leader in health care delivery, improvement, research and education. The organisation serves people in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne and, subject to final approval, will merge with Bayside Health on 1 January 2026, transferring employees from five health services to Bayside Health. This is a fixed-term opportunity for a Pharmacist Resident within the Alfred Health pharmacy team, located at the Alfred Hospital.

About the Team

Alfred Health provides health services to people in the inner southeast suburbs of Melbourne and is a major provider of specialist services to people across Victoria. We operate across three inpatient facilities — The Alfred, Caulfield and Sandringham Hospitals — and provide specialist services to the state HIV and Sexual Medicine tertiary service. Our Pharmacy Service is nationally and internationally recognised for high-quality, innovative, patient-focused services, education and training programs, and research output.

The Resident Training Program is a structured, supported two-year program nationally accredited by Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha). It targets motivated pharmacists who have recently completed their internship or are new to hospital practice.

About the Role

As a resident, you will be exposed to contemporary pharmacy practice and a broad range of clinical and operational experiences. The program includes a six-month rotation in a medical specialty, a surgical specialty, operations/support, and a breadth rotation that may include digital health or other specialised clinical areas. Residents may also rotate to one of our partner sites in rural Victoria or the Northern Territory.

Through the successful completion of the program, you can develop your practice towards recognition as an ANZCAP Pharmacist Resident.

Qualifications & Experience

- Must hold General Registration as a pharmacist in Australia or be expected to obtain general registration by February 2026
- This position is suited to a newly registered pharmacist or a pharmacist new to hospital pharmacy practice. Completion of an Internship in hospital pharmacy is desired but not essential.
- Note that the Resident Training Program begins in March 2025. Successful candidates would commence earlier for a period of orientation prior to the program.
