About the role
Western Health has an exciting opportunity for pharmacists to join our talented team as a Clinical Pharmacist – Grade 1 (Rotational). Multiple full-time positions are available in permanent and fixed-term roles, as well as opportunities to participate in the Foundation Resident Training Program (permanent roles only).
Applications are open to:
- Pharmacists with AHPRA registration
- Current Intern Pharmacists who will hold general registration as a pharmacist with AHPRA by January 2026
Available positions are full‑time, although applications will be considered for pharmacists seeking part‑time arrangements.
Motivated and enthusiastic pharmacists who have recently completed a hospital internship or are new to hospital pharmacy practice can apply to participate in the Foundation Resident Training Program as part of the Clinical Pharmacist – Grade 1 (Rotational) position. The Foundation Resident Training Program is a two‑year, structured and supported program designed to develop essential knowledge and skills for early‑career hospital pharmacists. This program is nationally accredited by Advanced Pharmacy Australia (AdPha).
What the Foundation Resident Training Program offers:
- Focused development of clinical and operational skills in‑core areas (general medicine, surgical, and operational rotations)
- Elective rotation
- Mentorship in a supportive learning environment
- Experience in research and leadership
- ANZCAP recognition as a Pharmacist Resident upon successful completion
Key responsibilities:
The Clinical Pharmacist –Grade 1 (Rotational) provides expert professional knowledge and skills to ensure:
- Patient outcomes are optimised by working to achieve Quality Use of Medicines (QUM)
- Optimal doses of the most appropriate medicine are given at the right time to the correct patient
- Prescribers and patients are supported to maximise the clinical benefits of medicines and minimise the risk of developing unwanted reactions
- Professional competence and continuing education activities are maintained to assist in teaching pharmacy students and pharmacy interns
- Education, research and operational activities within the department are supported
About you:
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Provide expert professional knowledge across a broad range of clinical and operational areas to ensure that patient outcomes are optimised
- Demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and participate in clinical education programmes
- Develop and maintain information technology skills and contribute to the development of innovative Pharmacy Services
- Work independently and as part of a team and assign priorities to responsibilities to meet time constraints and deadlines
- Be able to work across multiple sites
