Melbourne, Australia BlueRock Group Full time

Overview

Join one of our premier clients An independent game studio founded in 2014, they are the team behind multiple chart-topping arcade/action titles. Passionate about crafting bright, humorous games that appeal to a wide audience and continue to delight players for years to come.

We’re looking to hire an experienced, creative-minded, and technically skilled Company Accountant to manage our accounting, reporting, and financial operations. Previously handled externally, the finance functions are now moving in-house with this exciting new role. In this position, you’ll work closely with leadership to strengthen reporting, keep everything running smoothly, and help guide the company into the future. This is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact, applying your expertise to diverse challenges and guiding the studio’s decision-making.

This is a full-time role based at our Melbourne studio. The hybrid setup means that the team is in the office together on Mondays and Thursdays, with flexibility to work from home the rest of the week. Individual flexibility arrangements will be made wherever possible.

Responsibilities

- Full-spectrum Financial Accounting: Own the end-to-end accounting process, from day-to-day bookkeeping right through to monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting. Ensure accuracy, compliance, and timeliness.

- Financial Operations Leadership: Manage payroll, accounts payable/receivable, reconciliations, GST/BAS and statutory compliance.

- Systems & Automation: Identify, implement, and optimise fit-for-purpose finance systems and processes to ensure our accounts run like clockwork, even as we grow

- Management Reporting: Prepare and interpret management accounts, forecasts, budgets, and business analysis to support the CEO and leadership team in decision-making.

- Technical Advisory: Navigate the unique challenges of a digital games studio, including the Digital Games Offset Grant, R&D tax incentives, and deferred revenue models.

- Audit, Risk & Controls: Establish and run robust internal financial controls. Liaise with external auditors and ensure continuous process improvement.

- Business Partnering: Be a trusted advisor to management, providing clear insights, strengthening commercial acumen, and supporting strategic projects.

- Creative Industry Focus: Apply your understanding of the creative sector to support grant applications, IP management, and evolving revenue models.

- CA/CPA qualified, minimum 5-7 years professional accounting experience.

- Comfortable with both high-level reporting and hands-on financial operations - no job too big or too small

- Experience in the creative arts or technology sectors desirable; a genuine interest in the games/entertainment industry required.

- Strong technical skills, confident with modern accounting systems (e.g. Xero, MYOB, or equivalents), and able to troubleshoot, automate, and continuously improve workflows.

- Knowledge/experience with the Digital Games Offset Grant a distinct advantage.

- Exceptional communication skills with the curiosity, empathy, and confidence to partner directly with the CEO and creative stakeholders.

- Attention to detail, ethical integrity, and resilience under pressure.

- A good sense of humor

- We’re also keen to hear about any other interests that you may have which could contribute positively to our studio.

- Must be legally able to work in Australia.

What We Offer

- Close Leadership Collaboration: The chance to work closely with the CEO and broader leadership team to support strategic decision making

- Creative Environment: A close-knit, collaborative studio where ideas are valued and people support each other.

- Professional Development: Support for leveling up your skills and mentorship

- Profit Share Scheme: When the studio does well, everyone benefits

- Travel Opportunities: Attend industry events and conferences, both locally and abroad.

- Work/life Balance: Hybrid work and flexible arrangements to fit real life, not just work life.

- Interesting Projects: Contribute to games enjoyed by millions of players worldwide, where your work has a visible impact.
