Work Experience at Lake Mac - High School and Tertiary Students
Work Experience at Lake Mac – High School and Tertiary Students
Lake Macquarie City Council provides unpaid work experience for people who are currently studying at secondary and tertiary levels. These placements are a great opportunity to learn from our staff and gain new skills and on-the-job experience, while exploring possible career opportunities.
While we aim to provide all applicants with meaningful work experience in their preferred area where possible, the volume of applications that Council receives means that it may be necessary to decline some applications. All applications will be assessed in terms of timing of the placement, workloads of our employees and the availability of our people in the requested area to mentor and supervise students.
APPLYING FOR WORK EXPERIENCE
If you are interested in completing Work Experience with Lake Macquarie City Council, please submit an application below. As part of your application, you will be asked to include:
- Public liability coverage – you will be provided by your school a certificate of currency, please ensure this covers your whole placement.
- Student Placement Record – to be provided by your school
- Selection of the areas you are interested in completing work experience with (please select a maximum of 3)
Unfortunately, we are unable to action an application until we have received this information.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Participants must be undertaking study at high school, public or private, or tertiary educational providers.
- Students must provide their own liability insurance to undertake a placement. If they are currently studying, students should be covered by their educational institution for the placement. As part of your application, you will be asked to provide a letter of currency for this insurance.
- Applications for work experience must be made at least 6 weeks prior to the preferred start date for work experience. All requests will be actioned within 48 hours; however, a response may take 14 days from Application. If your application is successful, you will be required to complete some onboarding work tasks, these must be completed prior to the start date.
- Council has a random alcohol and other drugs testing program which applies to all employees, volunteers, work experience students, contractors, sub-contractors, labour hire and agency staff.
- It is important that you identify which department you would like to experience so that we have a clear understanding of your interests and can match you with the most meaningful area at Council for you.
