Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a Claims Manager, Property. At BHSI we view every claim as an opportunity to strengthen our customer relationships. This role is an external customer facing role and will lead our claims offering in all property lines, specifically Commercial Property, Mining, Power and Energy, and Construction. This role is a critical part of our property team, supporting the business goals and contributing on a strategic level. In this role, the Claims Manager will have an opportunity to manage all facets of property claims in a highly collaborative team environment, dedicated to best in class service. This role will report to the Head of Claims, Australasia, and be based in our Sydney office.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead a team of claims professionals, managing a broad portfolio of property claims in accordance with BHSI Claims Service Standards, which ensure the highest level of customer service and technical quality.
- Set expectations, coach, and develop teammates.
- Contribute to the development of the strategy to deliver our claims promise as our business moves into new products / segments.
- Collaborate with the broader BHSI property team including risk engineering and underwriting on claims trends, portfolio development, policy wordings and risk issues.
- Meet and participate in meetings with our customers and broker partners to communicate our “Claims is Our Product” promise, and working together with customers, brokers and vendors to drive claims to timely and appropriate solutions.
- As needed travel to client / broker meetings, site, inspections, mediations, conferences and other industry events.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience handling a broad range of property claims with a demonstrated technical mastery in negotiating and settling complex claims.
- University degree, loss adjusting designations or matching equivalency required.
- People management experience is required.
- Excellent interpersonal communications, leadership and negotiation skills.
- Ability and willingness to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as independently to achieve results and provide excellent customer service.
