Take the lead in telling our story.
At the Gold Coast SUNS, we’re not just building football teams—we’re building a movement. We're bringing our community along on the journey, opening the doors to the inner sanctum, and showing what it really takes to pursue AFL and AFLW Premiership success.
We’re looking for a Media and Communications Manager who can help us shine even brighter—someone who can craft compelling narratives, manage media relationships with professionalism and flair, and be the driving force behind how our story is told to Australia and the world. About the Role
As our Media Manager, you’ll be at the heart of how the SUNS connect with fans, partners, and the wider public. You’ll work closely with players, coaches, executives, and media outlets to ensure our message is authentic, engaging, and on point—whether it’s a press conference, a breaking news story, or a behind-the-scenes moment on game day.
This role is key to delivering on our club values, building our brand, and ensuring consistency in everything we say and share. Key Responsibilities
- Lead day-to-day media operations, press events, interview coordination, and media strategy execution.
- Build strong, proactive relationships with media partners to drive meaningful coverage of our people and programs.
- Be the go-to advisor for players, coaches, and execs—prepping them for media engagements and supporting them with messaging and media training.
- Guide and support the media team, including our expanding AFLW operations, while managing match-day broadcast and media responsibilities.
- Partner with internal departments to identify and share great stories, successes, and initiatives with the public.
- Monitor media coverage, manage sensitive issues with discretion, and report regularly to senior leadership.
- Foster a high-performance team culture and mentor junior staff and interns.
What We’re Looking For
You’re not just media-savvy—you’re media-driven. You have the experience, judgment, and energy to thrive in a fast-paced, high-profile environment. You know the AFL media landscape, and you’ve worked in or around elite sport. You’re strategic, cool under pressure, and relentless when it comes to deadlines and quality.
You’ll bring:
- Experience in a media or communications role, ideally within elite sport.
- A deep understanding of AFL media operations and the broader national/local media landscape.
- Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organisational skills, and a calm, proactive approach to managing live, high-stakes media moments.
- Proven leadership and mentoring experience.
- The flexibility and resilience to thrive in a role that’s anything but 9 to 5.
- A genuine passion for sport, people, and storytelling.
Why Join the SUNS?
We’re a bold, united, and community-driven club with a big vision. You’ll be joining a passionate team in a vibrant, supportive environment that values growth, impact, and connection. This is your chance to shape the voice of one of the AFL’s most exciting and ambitious clubs. Ready to light up the game?
Apply now and be part of something extraordinary.
