About The Position

Position Location: Port Pirie

Position Status: Part-Time (0.8FTE) Permanent

Closing Date for Applications: Sunday, 16th of November.

As a Financial Counsellor, you'll play a crucial role in assisting individuals and families facing financial difficulties. This position combines practical financial counselling with educational initiatives to empower clients. We seek a compassionate and skilled professional to help clients navigate complex financial situations, understand their rights, and regain control of their financial wellbeing.

Your responsibilities will include providing financial counselling, casework, and advocacy for those at risk of financial hardship. Working closely with community members, you will develop and implement personalised case plans to alleviate financial stress, build resilience, improve mental health, and enhance overall well‑being.

Desired Skills and Experience

You will:

- Provide free, confidential, and non‑judgmental financial counselling services.

- Assess clients’ financial situations including income, debts, and expenses.

- Offer information and advice on debt management, budgeting, and financial options.

- Advocate and negotiate with creditors, banks, and utility providers on behalf of clients.

- Assist clients with understanding legal rights under credit and debt laws.

- Refer clients to relevant support services including legal aid, housing, and mental health.

- Educate clients on financial literacy and empower them to make informed decisions.

- Maintain accurate records and comply with ethical and professional standards.

There is also a requirement to undertake a Diploma of Financial Counselling within six months of commencement in the role.

It is essential for you to have:

- Current Australian Drivers Licence.

- A Diploma of Financial Counselling (required) or willingness to commence study within 6 months.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

- Ability to work independently and manage a flexible schedule.

- Commitment to social justice and client‑centred practice.

You may also need to be available for some out of hours work and travel between Uniting Country SA sites or interstate as required.
