The Commercial Analyst Planning & Performance plays a critical role within the Commercial Finance team, supporting our Wholesale and Satellite business through financial planning, analysis, and performance reporting. Reporting to the Commercial Director, with a dotted line to a Commercial Finance Business Partner, the role is responsible for accurate month-end close, delivering financial performance reports, developing driver-based forecast models, and ensuring KPIs and insights align with strategic objectives. This position supports business performance reviews and works closely with stakeholders to provide timely and relevant financial insights

In addition to core reporting and forecasting, the role involves preparing briefings and presentations for senior stakeholders, contributing to internal strategy workshops, and engaging with external parties when required. Success in the position requires strong financial modelling expertise, problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate complex insights clearly. The role also demands excellent time management and collaboration skills to ensure analysis and reporting are accurate, complete, and impactful in driving business performance

What you’ll be doing

- Manage the timely month-end P&L close process for Wholesale product Portfolios by coordinating with Financial Operations, Billing & other relevant Optus teams .
- Deliver accurate forecasts and periodic performance reports against targets, identifying risks, opportunities, and insights to guide decisions.
- Track revenue metrics, identify unprofitable products, channels, or segments, and drive sustainable profit growth.
- Provide timely, high-quality insights to Product owners and senior stakeholders to enable informed decision-making.
- Monitor product/segment costs, control spend within budget, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure strong internal controls.
- Support development of Optus’ strategic and financial plans through modelling inputs from Marketing and Sales team along with trend analysis in preparation of annual budget presentations.
- Drive automation and continuous improvement, demonstrate leadership, support team engagement, and pursue personal development.

What makes you perfect for the role?

- University degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or statistics; CA or CPA qualified.
- 3+ years as a data, business, financial, or commercial analyst, within a mid to large scale organisation.
- Strong experience in data analysis, Excel modelling, and TM1; ability to generate actionable insights.
- Understanding of telecom products (mobile, fixed line, convergence), industry evolution, Australian regulatory environment, and competitor landscape.
- Impartial, with strong negotiation, interpersonal, and relationship-building abilities.
