Role and Responsibilities

As a Junior School Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and implementing an educational program which provides for the physical, emotional, developmental and social needs of children in the School’s Junior School, Wardle House. Our Junior School Teachers develop and implement a curriculum consistent with best educational practice which aligns with our School’s strategic and curriculum priorities.

Key Responsibilities

- Planning and implementing an educational program which fosters the social, emotional, cognitive, physical and aesthetic growth of each individual student.

- Creating flexible environments that support learning through inquiry, enabling students to engage, reflect, experiment and discover.

- Adopting practice that reflects innovation and creativity in design and implementation.

- Differentiating curriculum and its delivery according to needs of individual students.

- Communicate regularly with students and families in a variety of ways including online learning platforms.

- Meet all their duty of care responsibilities, report concerns and act in line with the School’s policies in this regard.

- Participate in the creation, development and evaluation of curriculum in line with the School’s curriculum priorities.

- Use existing resources and, where possible, participate in the creation, development and evaluation of resources for the implementation of the curriculum.

- Keep up to date with curriculum and resource development including information and communications technology.

- Ensure that all necessary documentation as requested by the Curriculum Leaders is current and complete.

Experience Required

- A track record of success in building highly effective teams within a primary school setting. A well-informed understanding of contemporary learning practices, research and pedagogy.

- Extensive knowledge of authentic assessment, reporting processes and data analysis to inform improved teaching practice to maximise individual student growth, including students who are neurodivergent.

- Outstanding interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal to assist in dealing with sometimes difficult and emotional situations involving students, parents and staff.

- A capacity to build high quality relationships that engender trust and respect with key stakeholders.

- Superior organisational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast paced and often challenging environment which will require the investment of time both during and after school hours.

- High degree of empathy, confidentiality, discretion, patience, tact and diplomacy at all times.

- Proven ability to problem solve, exercise initiative, research, investigate and make decisions.

- Demonstrated initiative and examples of leadership on projects or activities.

Qualifications

- Tertiary level qualifications in Education.

- VIT Registration.
