You’ll be part of a friendly and supportive team where everyone - no matter what role - contributes ideas and drives outcomes.
What role will you play?
At Macquarie the Software Engineering Manager role is a mix of a technical architect, people manager and a project manager.
Our Software Engineering Managers own the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of the team owned product and platforms. As well as technology ownership, they also own the hiring, retention and growth and development of an engineering team that meets the needs of the business and works well within the overall system architecture.
As a Software Engineering Manager, you will draw from a deep and broad technical expertise to mentor engineers, deep dive into technical problems, and provide leadership on complex technology issues in the company.
You will possess deep technical skills and spend most of your time building great software by directing and managing the engineers.
What you offer
- Experience managing multiple software engineering teams across diverse projects, ensuring alignment with business goals and timely delivery of complex engineering initiatives.
- Demonstrated success in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams including product managers, designers, and QA engineers to deliver high-impact solutions.
- Deep understanding of how to build and iterate on products in an Agile environment, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
- Focused on collaboration, developer experience, and driving innovation within teams.
- Extensive experience building performant, resilient, maintainable, and distributed software systems, with a strong emphasis on code quality and maintainability.
- Hands-on expertise with Java, Spring Boot, and Angular, enabling effective guidance and mentorship for engineering teams.
- Proven experience with AWS services such as S3, SQS, SNS, Cognito, ECS, VPC, and RDS, including cloud-native application development and deployment.
- Applied knowledge of tools like AWS CloudWatch and Dynatrace to ensure application reliability, uptime, and rapid incident response.
- Skilled in database optimisation, indexing, and query performance tuning to support scalable, high-performance applications.
- Strong understanding of security principles (OWASP Top 10), secure coding practices, and compliance frameworks (ISO 27001). Experience with Secure Code Warrior is a bonus.
- Applied understanding of tech obsolescence, privacy requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Communication & Stakeholder Management
- Proven ability to engage and manage stakeholders, facilitating clear communication between technical and non-technical teams.
- Computer Science background or equivalent experience, providing a solid foundation in software engineering principles and best practices.
