Join the team

We are seeking a Head of Strategic Projects (on a 12-month FTC) to play a critical role in shaping the future direction of the Kmart Group. This senior leadership role partners closely with the Kmart Target Leadership Team, Group Executives, Commercial Finance and cross-functional leaders across the broader Wesfarmers ecosystem.

You will lead the Group’s strategic planning process, drive high-impact strategic initiatives, and ensure we convert ambition into value. You’ll influence at the highest levels, synthesising complex data and insights into clear, actionable recommendations that drive commercial outcomes.

What you’ll be doing

Enterprise Strategy & Planning

- Prepare enterprise strategy documentation and executive presentations that shape the Group’s long-term direction.

- Co-ordinate the trimesterly strategy review cycle, ensuring visibility of progress, risks and value delivery.

Strategic Program Delivery

- Lead discovery and execution of Group-wide strategic initiatives across commercial, digital and operational domains.

- Assess, challenge and prioritise strategic opportunities, working closely with business SMEs and the technology delivery function.

- Support governance processes including Board updates, Wesfarmers Strategy Day documentation and investor communications.

Commercial Evaluation & Investment Decisions

- Guide the development and assessment of financial models for major investments and new business opportunities.

- Identify critical assumptions, risks and sensitivities to enable confident decision-making.

- Recommend and prioritise opportunities that create sustainable commercial value.

Leadership & Stakeholder Influence

- Lead and develop a high-performing team, creating a culture of commercial curiosity, analytical rigour and continuous improvement.

- Influence senior leaders across Kmart, Target, Anko and Wesfarmers to align on strategy, execution pathways and value outcomes.

- Build strong relationships across the business to ensure effective stakeholder engagement and delivery momentum.

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

- Bachelor degree in Business, Commerce or a related field; MBA/CA/CPA highly regarded.

- 10–15 years’ experience in business development, management consulting, strategic delivery, investment banking or commercial finance.

- Strong commercial acumen and deep understanding of P&L drivers and financial modelling.

- Demonstrated success in leading complex strategy workstreams and delivering enterprise-level initiatives.

- Exceptional presentation, influencing and communication skills — able to distil complexity into compelling, executive-ready insights.

- Proven ability to challenge constructively, think critically and drive outcomes in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

- Experience partnering with advanced analytics, commercial finance and technology functions.
