Vocational Education and Training - Workplace Learning Support Officer

Branch: Manea Senior College

Division: Independent Public School - Southwest Education Region

Salary: Level 3, $81,448 - $87,376 per annum (pro-rata) (DOE (SSO) CA 2024)

This is a permanent part-time (0.8 FTE) position commencing Term 1, 2026

At Manea Senior College (SC), we have a strong moral purpose to provide students with quality teaching and learning opportunities as well as life experiences that enable them to transition into the adult world. This is achieved through an environment that is specialised for young adults and built on the foundation of strong relationships, mutual trust, respect, support and individual accountability. Our ethos is one of familiarity, with staff and students engaging on a first‑name basis, fostering an atmosphere where everyone is treated with the respect deserving of young adults.

Our core purpose is to ‘prepare students for life’, and central to this mission is our unwavering commitment to instilling a young adult environment with workplace expectations. We firmly believe that in order to support young individuals in their transition to the adult world, it is imperative to treat our students as young adults. This guiding principle permeates every aspect of our daily practice.

Strategically located with Edith Cowan University (ECU) South West Campus and South Regional TAFE (SRT), Manea SC students have access to facilities across the Education Precinct and the opportunity to pursue Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) and general courses alongside nationally recognised training qualifications.

Our staff are expected to uphold the corporate image of Manea SC by wearing the staff uniform, adhering to the Department of Education code of conduct and participate in providing students with value‑add experiences and other student supports. In addition, it is expected that staff will maximise the use of the web‑based portals including Microsoft Teams to provide online access to teaching, learning and assessment outlines.

The Role

The Vocational Education and Training (VET) – Workplace Learning (WPL) Support Officer plays a vital role in supporting the effective planning, implementation and administration of the college’s VET and WPL programs. Working collaboratively with the VET and WPL Coordinators, the Support Officer contributes to the development and maintenance of programme documentation, support materials and procedural manuals to ensure the smooth operation of both programs. This role also involves tailoring individual student pathways by considering students’ skills, abilities and aspirations, with a view to supporting meaningful transitions into employment or further training opportunities.

A key component of the position is assisting in the sourcing of suitable VET placements and industry placements that align with student goals and curriculum requirements. The Support Officer actively engages with local employers and industries to secure quality placements and conducts site visits and meetings with prospective hosts to ensure compliance with safety and programme expectations. The role includes supporting the induction and training of students into the WPL programme, as well as workplace supervisors, and fostering productive networks with workplace teachers and assessors to maintain programme quality and consistency.

Monitoring and evaluation are also core responsibilities of the role. The Support Officer tracks student progress during placements, conducts regular site visits, reviews logbooks to ensure accurate recording of hours and experiences, and evaluates enrolment and completion data. This information is used to prepare reports for the college administration team and to inform ongoing programme improvements. The role also encompasses a range of administrative duties, including maintaining the Workplace Learning database and managing correspondence related to student placements and industry engagement.

The VET – WPL Support Officer promotes the Department of Education’s ethos and purpose by engaging with students, parents and the broader community, responding to inquiries about curriculum policies and programmes and supporting a shared commitment to student success through vocational pathways.
