About the role

The Murrumbidgee Local Health District (MLHD) Specialist Palliative Care service is underpinned by an interdisciplinary approach for the provision to end of life and palliative care for patients with a life limiting illness and support for their carers and families.

The MLHD Specialist Palliative Care service is an enhanced nurse led, community based, interdisciplinary service within the Service Delivery Directorate. The service provides comprehensive end of life and palliative care to patients with an advanced and life limiting illness. Integral to the service is a specialist Palliative Care physician / Nurse Practitioner model for 24/7 on-call clinical escalation and prescriber advice. This advice extends to specialist palliative care nursing support of patients registered to the service and MLHD Health Services.

The MLHD Specialist Palliative Care service aims to build local capability to deliver high quality, evidence-based end of life and palliative care and improve outcomes and experience for palliative care patients and families. The service aims to effectively respond to palliative care needs, including for priority populations, support workforce development and strengthen partnerships in care between NSW Health, community agencies and other key stakeholders.

As the Palliative Care Speech Pathologist, you will be responsible for:

- Provision of a comprehensive Speech Pathology service as directed by their line manager. This may involve direct clinical work with clients, providing an expert consultation service for other speech pathologists or other support and education as required.

- Providing clinical services to patient/client/consumer groups and circumstances of a complex nature.

- Exercising independent professional judgement when required in solving problems and managing cases where principles, procedures, techniques, and methods require expansion, adaptation, or modification.

- Providing education on the specialty of Speech Pathology in Palliative Care.

Employment Type: Temporary Part Time (until 31 January 2027 – Maternity Leave Cover)

Position Classification: Speech Pathologist – Level 3

Remuneration: $112,396.00 - $116,038.00 per annum, pro rata (super +17.5% leave loading where applicable)

Hours Per Week: up to 24

Our ideal candidate will:

- Hold a degree in Speech Pathology with eligibility for membership with Speech Pathology Australia (SPA).

- Have a minimum of 5 years clinical experience working as a Speech Pathologist

- Show demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, skills, and experience within palliative care/end of life care, with an emphasis on evidence-based practice and ability to provide consultation services to support other clinicians.
