About the role

As the Scientific Lead – Pathogen Genomics (MeS3), you will lead the management, development, and operation of the pathogen genome Bioinformatics Group within the Public Health and Epidemiology Laboratory, part of the Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Directorate. You will apply advanced analytical and technical expertise to support surveillance, diagnostics, and research that inform public health responses and strengthen the scientific capability of the service.

Working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams, you will guide the group’s strategic direction, mentor staff, and foster innovation in laboratory science and data‑driven analysis. You will identify opportunities for growth, contribute to policy and program development, and represent the laboratory in scientific forums, ensuring the delivery of high‑quality outcomes that advance public health and microbiological research.

About You

You are a highly skilled and motivated scientist with strong leadership, analytical, and technical expertise in bioinformatics and diagnostic microbiology. You combine a strategic mindset with a passion for innovation, accuracy, and public health improvement, guiding teams to deliver scientific excellence and operational efficiency.

- Leadership and Collaboration: Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop staff, fostering teamwork while managing complex workflows with professionalism and accountability.

- Scientific and Technical Expertise: Extensive experience in bioinformatics and pathogen genome analysis, with proficiency in HPC use, computer analysis, and quality assurance.

- Analytical and Problem‑Solving Skills: Advanced capability in interpreting complex data, developing new techniques, and applying innovative solutions to laboratory and research challenges.

- Communication and Professionalism: Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with a strong commitment to customer service, confidentiality, and continuous improvement.
