The Sexual Health and BBV Program Coordinator provides expert sexual health and blood borne virus advice and support to Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) and key external stakeholders, with the aim of decreasing the incidence of STIs in Aboriginal peoples across Western Australia.
You will also be responsible for the coordination, planning, development, implementation and evaluation of collaborative activities associated with the sexual health, blood borne viruses, and hepatitis C programs.
This role will:
- Develop and strengthen partnerships between AHCWA and other sexual health and BBV sector stakeholders;
- Provide expert clinical management advice and support relating to compliance, audits, policies and procedures, clinical best practice management, and data support and analysis;
- Develop networks in Aboriginal communities to build community support for sexual health promotion activities;
- Promote and support appropriate existing and planned clinical management of STIs and BBVs, including Point of Care testing;
- Provide support, advice and mentoring to Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) sexual health and clinical staff;
- Coordinate activities and reporting within, and provide support to, the Sexual Health and Blood Borne Viruses team and ACCHS to meet program deliverables; and
- Assist in the development and delivery of professional development programs.

About You
To be considered for this position, you must have:
- A current WA Working with Children Card;
- Experience in planning, implementing and evaluating public health programs, education and training for a diverse range of audiences;
- Knowledge of clinical quality improvement practices in primary health care, with a focus on sexual health and BBVs;
- Understanding of the current trends and issues impacting the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal communities throughout WA;
- Advanced written and verbal communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills;
- Ability to manage competing priorities with autonomy and initiative;
- Strong communication, analytical and problem‑solving skills; and
- Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Ideally, in addition to the above, we are looking for someone who:
- Identifies as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and is accepted as such by their community;
- Possesses a relevant clinical qualification;
- Has relevant clinical knowledge, skills and a minimum of 5 years' experience within sexual health;
- Holds a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or is working towards it;
- Has knowledge of the Australian Qualifications Framework and best practice;
- Has demonstrated experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled sectors; and
- Holds current registration with AHPRA as a Registered Nurse or Aboriginal Health Practitioner.
The position involves working within a multicultural organisation where the majority of employees, clients and stakeholders identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and their ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
Please note: In addition to the above skills and experience, the successful candidate will require an unrestricted WA “C” Class Driver’s Licence, and be required to submit a National Police Clearance (dated within 3 months) prior to appointment.
