Position Information

At Strathfield South High School we pursue excellence and equity through a commitment to every student meeting and exceeding their potential through setting high expectations of and for students and staff, and employing innovative and differentiated curriculum structures. We are an inclusive and proud comprehensive public high school with a Support Unit which has 12 classes, located in Sydney's inner west. Our school community reflects modern Australia, with students from all corners of the world. The school population of approximately 600 with 80% of students from a non-English speaking background. We cater for international students who elect to attend Strathfield South High School to take advantage of the learning opportunities available. We have a large Support unit of 8 Autism and 4 Hearing Support classes supported by a Deputy Principal Inclusion and Support. We celebrate and champion diversity, and work collaboratively with our community to ensure all students develop a deep understanding and empathy for the cultural backgrounds of themselves and others.

Specific Selection Criteria

- Approval to teach - Hearing Impairment (Secondary) is needed to teach Deaf and/ or Hard of Hearing students.

- Capacity to develop and implement an inclusive curriculum that caters to students across a range of disabilities.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the capacity to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams that include students, staff, families, community members and external agencies to create positive outcomes for students.

- Demonstrated experience supporting the learning and wellbeing of students with diverse and challenging behaviours and implementing positive behaviour support strategies.

Conditions

Successful applicants may be entitled to a Recruitment Bonus of $20,000 (Conditions Apply). The Recruitment Bonus will be paid on a pro rata basis for permanent part-time teachers and executive staff. The maximum recruitment bonus available for a position is $20,000, including any job share arrangements.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

Applicants seeking either permanent full time or permanent part time employment are encouraged to apply for this position. If the recommended applicant is seeking permanent part time employment (FTE from 0.1 to 0.9 inclusive), they will be offered an appointment at their desired FTE.
