Expression of Interest

Overview

Central Coast Council (Council) is seeking Expressions of Interest from suitably qualified and experienced candidates to be appointed as independent external members of the Mangrove Mountain Advisory Sub-Committee (the Committee) for the term of the current Council (through to approximately mid 2028). Council has up to 5 positions to fill.

The Committee will comprise five Independent External Members, the Mayor, and Councillors nominated by resolution of Council. It will meet at least four times per year at the Wyong Council office or remotely. This is a sub-advisory committee to Council that may provide advice, input and feedback on matters relating to the management of the Mangrove Mountain area, specifically the upper Ourimbah Creek catchment, within the Central Coast local government area. The Committee is seeking community members with skills, knowledge and experience in one or more of catchment management, environmental management, or involvement with a community or business group within the catchment, in accordance with the adopted terms of reference.

Community members selected will be required to undertake formal training in Council's Code of Conduct and become familiar with Council's Code of Meeting Practice. The position is a voluntary role with no remuneration.

Note: This role is a panel member and not an employee of Council.

Essential criteria

The following criteria must be addressed indicating knowledge and experience as required in Council’s Mangrove Mountain Advisory Sub-Committee Terms of Reference

1. That they are a resident and/or ratepayer of the Central Coast local government area
2. Commitment to being available to attend Sub-Committee meetings in the format determined by the Chairperson (in person, online, hybrid)
3. Ability to represent the views of the whole community. The person should be viewed by the wider community as bringing an independent view to the Sub-Committee.
4. Ability to educate and inform their community networks on matters considered by the Sub-Committee.
5. Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:

- Active involvement with community groups or organisations in the Central Coast local government area, able to bring relevant matters to the Sub-Committee for consideration and are willing to educate and inform their community networks on matters considered.

- Active involvement with an established and relevant Environmental Group user group, or

- Active involvement with an established and relevant Community Business group user group, or

- Active involvement with an established and relevant Mangrove Mountain user group, or

6. Commitment to formally notifying the Sub-Committee Coordinator of any real, potential, or perceived conflicts of interest. A conflict of interest may not necessarily disqualify a person from membership; it will be considered as part of the appointment process.
7. Council employees are not eligible to be independent community members of the Sub-Committee.
