We are seeking a Senior Legal Counsel, experienced in financial services, to provide expert legal guidance across the Bank, ensuring compliance, managing legal risk, and supporting strategic initiatives.

The role can be based out of the Head Office in Sydney (Mascot) or Melbourne (Collingwood)

What you will be doing

The Senior Legal Counsel will play a pivotal role in delivering commercially sound legal advice across a broad spectrum of legal and regulatory matters. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will support the Bank’s strategic objectives while safeguarding its legal and reputational interests.

- Provide strategic legal advice across financial services law, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance to support sound decision‑making.

- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents, including supplier agreements, leases, member terms, and disclosures.

- Support business initiatives, product development, and partnerships with commercially relevant legal input.

- Manage external legal counsel and litigation matters, ensuring cost‑effective and high‑quality outcomes.

- Monitor legal and regulatory developments and collaborate with Risk & Compliance to ensure the Bank remains compliant and proactive.

What you will bring

- Hold a Bachelor of Laws and an unrestricted Australian practising certificate.

- Prior legal experience at a law firm/in‑house counsel roles, preferably within financial services, with credit law experience helpful.

- Demonstrate strong knowledge of banking regulation, financial services law, and banking systems.

- Possess excellent communication skills with the ability to convey legal advice clearly to non‑legal stakeholders.

- Thrive in a fast‑paced environment with the ability to manage competing priorities independently and collaboratively.
