About Us Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) is an exceptional environment to advance your career while enhancing your skills and expertise. The Primary Care and Community Health Unit consists of 9 centres that provide a range of services for children, young people and their families, adults, older people and their carers. Our services range from health promotion, prevention and early detection through to assessment, treatment and continuing care. Our staff work in partnership with schools, GPs, hospitals, non‑government agencies and other organisations to provide care across our centres, in people’s homes, other community venues as well as virtual care (telehealth).
We are seeking an experienced, compassionate and highly motivated Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join our team, providing expert leadership, clinical support and education in the care of individuals affected by violence, abuse and neglect.
As the CNS for violence, abuse and neglect, you will play a key role in shaping the quality and safety of services, ensuring that staff are confident and equipped to identify, support and advocate for people at risk. You will be central to delivering a coordinated, trauma‑informed response across health and social care settings.
The Clinical Nurse Specialist Grade 2 – violence, abuse and neglect (CNS2 – VAN) works within the psychosocial‑led NSW Health Sexual Assault Service model of care to provide integrated, trauma‑informed medical care and forensic examinations to people of all genders aged 14 years and older who have experienced recent sexual assault. This role collaborates with the Medical Lead – Sexual Assault and Domestic and Family Violence, Child and Adolescent Safety Paediatrician, and other VAN Service nursing staff to ensure strong integrated practice, communication networks, data management and standards of practice in responding to violence, abuse and neglect are maintained.
You will have strong leadership, communication and influencing skills, be a passionate advocate for vulnerable people with a commitment to equality, dignity and compassionate care. This position will see you mentor staff and develop their professional skills by participating in training and/or professional networks, provide education and advice on caring for victim‑survivors of VAN to other clinicians in NSW Health and will participate in the 24 hour/7 day per week on‑call roster, regular team meetings, quality improvement activities, administrative tasks, and research and education delivery as appropriate.

What you will bring to the role:
- Current registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Agency (AHPRA) with relevant post‑registration qualifications (i.e. sexual health, family planning, women’s health, obstetrics and gynaecology and emergency nursing) and at least 3 years’ experience working in the clinical area of their specified post‑graduate qualification, or such other qualifications or equivalent experience deemed appropriate by the organisation.
- Completed, working towards or willing to undertake NSW Health Education Centre Against Violence Graduate Certificate in the Medical and Forensic Management of Adult Sexual Assault (or equivalent).
- Demonstrated commitment to and experience in service development and quality improvement including the capacity to initiate change and negotiate support from key stakeholders and coordinate clinical audit activities.
- Demonstrated ability to provide high quality, trauma‑informed and culturally safe care to clients who have experienced violence, abuse and neglect and may present as highly distressed.
- Highly developed clinical skills in patient assessment and care planning with demonstrated ability to provide a referral service as required.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and initiating education to improve clinical service delivery and patient clinical outcomes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills enabling collaborative work with colleagues, other health professionals and individuals to provide safe and effective care.
- Current NSW driver’s licence and willingness to use same as required for the position and the ability to participate in an on‑call roster.
