Job Summary
Maitland Public School is a vibrant and inclusive learning community located in Maitland. The successful candidate will possess strong collaborative leadership skills and a deep understanding of best practice in Special Education, including effective implementation of inclusive teaching strategies that cater to the diverse needs of learners.
A sound knowledge of a wide range of disabilities and learning difficulties, and the ability to differentiate teaching, learning and assessment to support student growth, are essential. The candidate will foster a positive and supportive school culture where staff wellbeing, professional learning and collective efficacy are prioritised to enhance student engagement and achievement.
This role requires a leader committed to the Disability Standards for Education (2005) and able to work collaboratively with staff, families and external agencies to promote equitable access and improved outcomes for all students. It also provides an opportunity to contribute to the school’s Strategic Directions and support delivery of high‑quality curriculum and wellbeing initiatives.
Responsibilities
Lead and support the implementation of inclusive education strategies for students with disabilities.
Build and maintain a culture of continuous improvement, staff wellbeing and professional learning.
Collaborate with families, external agencies and internal stakeholders to ensure equitable access for all students.
Specific Selection Criteria
- Approval to teach special education and/or experience teaching students with moderate/severe intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorders, physical and sensory disabilities, and challenging behaviours.
- Capacity to develop and lead consistent, high‑quality transition and integration programs.
- Proven ability to lead and support colleagues in planning, teaching and evaluating practices that foster inclusive and equitable learning environments.
- Proven ability to build strong partnerships across multiple sectors to support wellbeing and achievement of students with disabilities.
General Selection Criteria
- Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice.
- Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs.
- Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams.
- Well‑developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents.
- Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is required. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you must commence the application process concurrently with this application.
