DEMI CHEF – Conventions & Events / Hamilton Island

Hamilton Island's Conventions & Events team is seeking a passionate and capable Demi Chef to help deliver outstanding culinary experiences across the island's exciting schedule of events, including weddings, corporate conferences, and major events like Hamilton Island Race Week and The Great Barrier Feast.

Your Role

This is a full-time, permanent live-on-island position, with rotating rosters depending on event needs. You'll support the kitchen brigade in preparing and presenting quality food for a wide variety of events – from intimate beachfront weddings to large-scale corporate functions.

Where You'll Make an Impact

- Prepare and present food across various kitchen sections under the guidance of senior chefs
- Assist in high-volume food production for events, banquets, and special occasions
- Participate in event catering setups such as BBQs, street food stations, and off-site activations
- Uphold food safety, hygiene, and quality standards at all times
- Rotate through stations and learn new skills to grow in your culinary career
- Work with the team to maintain consistency and smooth service execution

What We're Looking For

You're an enthusiastic and reliable cook with a strong work ethic and a desire to learn. You take pride in your work, love being part of a team, and are excited to contribute to world-class island events.

To Be Successful, You Will Need

- Certificate III in Commercial Cookery (Essential)
- Minimum 1–2 years of experience in a commercial kitchen environment
- Open manual Australian driver's licence (Essential)
- Excellent communication and time management skills
- Valid Australian working rights (minimum 6 months)
- Willingness to work rotating rosters including mornings, evenings, weekends, and event-based shifts
- High standards of cleanliness, grooming, and personal presentation
