Nuclear Medicine Medical Physicist/Deputy Radiation Safety Officer (RSO)

About the Role:
This is an ongoing part-time position (open to 0.2-0.5EFT) for an RSO Medical Physicist. Working under the minimal supervision of RSO Medical Physicist, the Grade 3 nuclear medicine medical physicist/deputy radiation safety officer (RSO) will be fully involved in all aspects of providing a medical physics and radiation safety service throughout The Royal Children’s Hospital. This includes assisting in the facilitation of the Medical Imaging Department’s quality assurance program, performance testing of radiology and/or nuclear medicine equipment to ensure compliance with the Victorian regulatory requirements and relevant Australian Standards.
Your skills and experience:
- Registration on the ACPSEM Register of Qualified Medical Physics Specialists in Nuclear Medicine Physics
- Hold a Victorian Radiation Use Licence
- Hold Victorian regulatory approval for radiation dose estimates for research trials
- Experience in calculating individual patient doses and using sophisticated dosimetry equipment
- Experience in managing and participation in Quality Improvement programmes
- Experience in tutoring, teaching or radiation safety presentations
- Experience in radiation shielding calculations
- In-depth knowledge of medical imaging technology and radiation safety principles and practice as applied to medicine
- Understanding of Victorian, Australian, and International Standards and Codes of Practice relevant to radiation safety in medicine
- Experience testing of Nuclear Medicine and PET imaging systems to NEMA standards
- Involvement in evaluation and implementation of scientific research protocols
- Hold or be eligible to hold Victorian Tester’s Approval
