Are you a proven, experienced problem-solver, and ensuring an exceptional player experience in a living, evolving game world?
As a Senior Quality Assurance Analyst on RuneScape: Dragonwilds, our open-world survival crafting game built in Unreal Engine 5, you’ll play a key role in ensuring the stability, performance, and overall quality of complex gameplay systems, from dynamic environments to survival mechanics and player progression.
You’ll collaborate closely with development, design, and production teams to define and evolve test strategies, shaping the game’s quality at every stage of development. As a senior member of the QA team, you’ll also mentor others, refine processes, and champion best practices to help the team deliver a polished and seamless experience for players across all platforms.
What you’ll be doing
- Gain in-depth understanding of new and developing features from the early stages of conception, design and development.
- Anticipate testing requirements across open-world systems, such as AI behaviors, crafting, resource management, and environmental interactions.
- Define and evolve test strategies for Unreal Engine 5, leveraging automation, profiling tools, and performance metrics where appropriate.
- Understand and evaluate QA tools from a technical perspective and recommend or develop them as necessary.
- Review and evaluate defect database, on individual ticket and data analysis levels to improve or facilitate QA processes.
- Collaborate across the product team to evaluate and improve quality processes, involve everyone in driving quality.
- Work with departments outside of product team (e.g. Localisation, Legal, Submission and Release) to ensure work or requirements are communicated.
- Contribute to defect and task prioritisation, adjusting priorities in collaboration with the development team.
- Mentor and develop members of the QA team and be a source of knowledge and expertise in QA and the product.
- Organise process and feature documentation, assessing gaps in knowledge and filling them in.
- Manage or assist on complex QA tests and product features, with planning, organising team tasks, and test execution.
- Be a Subject Matter Expert across multiple QA and product subjects.
What we’re looking for
- Strong knowledge and proven experience with data analytics and testing telemetry.
- Strong understanding of open-world testing challenges — e.g., streaming, large environments, AI interactions, save/load systems.
- Detailed understanding of the software development lifecycle.
- Excellent understanding of integration testing, branching strategies.
- Proven experience driving collaboration between different teams.
- Experience testing across different video game platforms and hardware (e.g. PlayStation, PC, Android); experience with compatibility and performance testing.
- Proven experience with risk-based testing and managing QA for large-scale or live products.
- Familiarity with data analytics and telemetry, using metrics to assess quality and player experience.
- Experience performing grey-box & white-box testing.
- In-depth knowledge of QA tools (JIRA, X-ray or similar) and familiarity with a variety of specialist tools.
