About the role
The WA Capacity Investment and Assessment (CIA) team is growing to support the energy transition as it gathers pace.

The WA CIA team is responsible to operate the Reserve Capacity Mechanism (RCM), a unique feature of the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) and pivotal to its operations. The RCM ensures sufficient energy producing systems and demand side management capacity is available to support reliable electricity supply in the WA grid.

In this dynamic role, you will get to work with a smart, diverse and supportive group of people while actively leading and contributing to key processes that have a significant financial outcome on the WEM and its stakeholders. You will be supporting reform initiatives aimed at transitioning WA's electricity sector to a zero carbon future.

Be prepared for a cerebral workout most days as you analyse and interpret market data, use your expertise and understanding of the WEM to make informed decisions, develop solutions and support stakeholders across the energy industry.

What you will be doing

- Undertake analysis to support a broad range of WEM functions and regulatory compliance obligations, including reviewing detailed financial, technical, and contractual documents.
- Lead the identification and analysis of changes to the WEM and other legislative instruments.
- Provide input into projects that contribute to complex market reviews and drive the implementation of solutions and provide oversight and guidance.
- Support AEMO's involvement in government policies and initiatives regarding WEM regulatory matters.
- Provide expert knowledge to internal and external stakeholders on matters related to the WEM including risks, and technical and operational aspects of power system operations.

What you will bring to the role

- Tertiary qualifications in an analytical discipline or similar (Economics, Legal, Policy, etc).
- Relevant experience in the Energy sector preferably with a knowledge of the WEM
- Ability to adapt and problem solve in a changing energy landscape will be key to succeed in this role.
- Strong understanding of the political and regulatory framework governing the energy industry.
- Proven ability to balance compliance and analysis, adhering to procedures and generating reports in a commercial/regulatory setting.
- Demonstrated expertise in leading complex technical and/or operational activities/projects, effectively collaborating within large teams and across organisations.
- Adept at producing high-quality written material and delivering clear, impactful presentations that convey intricate technical concepts or issues to diverse audiences.
