The Senior Fraud Investigations Analyst plays a critical role in supporting Optus’ fraud risk operations by leading complex and high-profile investigations. The role involves gathering intelligence, analysing evidence, and preparing legally admissible briefs for use in both civil and criminal proceedings. It requires collaboration with managers, law enforcement, and other stakeholders, with the possibility of attending court to provide expert evidence.
As a member of the team, this position demands deep knowledge of Optus systems and processes, strong data analysis skills, and proficiency in SQL and database tools. The role also involves partnering with senior management to strengthen fraud risk controls across the business, ensuring innovative solutions are implemented to address root causes. Flexibility, strong communication skills, and proven experience managing complex fraud issues are essential to delivering impact in this high-responsibility role.
What you’ll be doing

- Detect, prevent, and analyse fraud across all streams, while staying updated on emerging risks impacting Optus and the wider telecom industry.
- Act as a subject matter expert on telecommunications networks, Optus systems, and processes including provisioning, billing, and customer management.
- Prepare briefs of evidence, refer cases to law enforcement, attend court when required, and address internal/external audit and fraud-related issues.
- Lead the design and implementation of preventative measures, risk assessments, and provide fraud risk advice to business lines and project teams.
- Collaborate across divisions, manage multiple projects, and effectively prioritise tasks to support business objectives.
What makes you perfect for the role?
- Degree in Accounting, Commerce/Business, IS, or related field; ACFE certification highly regarded.
- 10+ years in fraud/analyst roles within telecommunications, with proven expertise in credit, fraud risk, and data interrogation.
- Proficient with SQL, databases, and analytical tools, strong knowledge of billing, CRM, and network systems.
- Strong project and team management experience, commercial acumen, and ability to communicate with impact across all management levels.
- Detail-oriented, adaptable, customer-focused, with persistence, curiosity, and motivation to identify and implement innovative fraud solutions.
Optus is a place where we let you do you. We offer a range of benefits including:
- 3 days in the office, 2 days remote – with flexible hours to suit
- All Optus employees have access to resources, webinars and support via the ‘Parents at Work portal’
