Upcoming Opportunities in the Pool - Hospital in the Home (HITH): Part-time role (0.5–0.8 FTE) for experienced Speech Pathologists (≥3 years) with paediatric feeding disorders (PFD) in children under 2 years; requires a Class C licence. WA’s inpatient paediatric care at home model with a new AlliedHealth team. - Early Intervention (EI) Program: Outpatient role available full-time or part-time. Experience with infants and toddlers (0–2 years) with neurological and developmental disabilities; understanding of WA disability sector and multidisciplinary teams; paediatric feeding disorders desirable. - Feeding Difficulties Team: 12-month fixed-term parental leave cover spanning inpatient and outpatient settings. Experience managing infants with PFD; skills in differential diagnosis, family education, service development, and clinical education. Opportunities to develop VFSS and FEES post-credentialing in PFD. - Paediatric Neurorehabilitation: Manage a range of acquired, developmental, and neurodegenerative conditions across settings; specialist dysphagia services; opportunities in acute and community paediatric rehabilitation. - Other Opportunities: Additional vacancies may arise within the Cleft Lip and Palate and Complex Airway Speech Pathology teams. Role Details About the role: We are seeking Senior Speech Pathologists to join Perth Children’s Hospital and deliver high quality, evidence-based, family-centred care for children and young people. As a Senior Speech Pathologist reporting to the Head of Department, you will: - Provide evidence-based assessment, intervention, and evaluation of communication and/or swallowing disorders as part of a multidisciplinary team. - Prioritise and coordinate a clinical caseload; participate in clinical review meetings and case conferences as appropriate. - Advise and support staff by coordinating caseloads, promoting patient safety while complying with governance and regulatory requirements. - Educate patients and families in post-discharge management, providing strategies to support feeding and/or speech and language development at home; coordinate discharge summaries and referrals as needed. - Engage in self-study toward certification/recognition in a specialty area and supervise junior (P1) speech pathologists toward the same. - Liaise with consumer groups and external agencies; provide education and training to internal and external stakeholders; support referrals to community and NDIS/private providers. A tertiary qualification in Speech Pathology and eligibility for full SPA membership are required. Experience from an adult care environment can be transitioned to the paediatric setting. About the Speech Pathology Team Based at Perth Children’s Hospital, our state-wide service supports children aged 0–16 years in inpatient and outpatient settings, focusing on complex feeding/swallowing difficulties, complex neurological impairment, and tertiary communication needs. Specialised services include neonatal and paediatric critical care, subacute paediatric rehabilitation, CHIP, VFSS clinics, and complex case management clinics. We work with children and families to provide consultation, intervention, rehabilitation, training and support, including alternative communication methods and guidance on safe feeding and nutrition.
