[3 Days Left] Senior Payroll Advisor
At John Holland, our purpose is simple – we transform lives with everything we do.
We've always known that infrastructure is about people – our customers, our employees, and the communities in which we work every day.
That's our difference. Deep experience and capability with a genuine care about creating better lives for people along the way.
Be part of the team that's up for the challenge of transforming lives for good.
Are you up for the challenge?
We are currently seeking a Senior Payroll Advisor to join our payroll team based out of our Pyrmont office in Sydney.
You’ll be joining a high‑performing, friendly, and supportive payroll team that processes over 4,600 pays each month across Australia and New Zealand. It’s a fast‑paced environment where your expertise will make a real impact – and where your ideas for continuous improvement are genuinely valued.
With new systems like SuccessFactors being implemented and a strong focus on modernising payroll operations, this is a great time to join and help shape the future of how we work.
About the Role
- End‑to‑end accurate processing of payrolls using Chris21 and other people systems like SuccessFactors
- Ensure JHG processes and procedures are complied with in processing of Payroll
- Running of various reports for business units
- Assist with audits when requested
- Processing backpays when they arise
- Processing of termination pays including redundancies and ensuring legislative and regulatory rules are followed
- Calculation of redundancy estimates for employees when required
- Reconcile superannuation maximum calculations
- Reconcile all payments from Payroll (i.e. superannuation, end‑of‑month payments, deductions and pay runs)
- Check new starters, transfers and terminations
- Carry out all reasonable instructions from the Team Leader or Payroll Manager
- Backup for Payroll Advisor where required
- Participate in UAT testing or any other project related tasks for various ongoing projects
- Perform all duties in accordance with John Holland policies, processes, systems, and procedures
About You
You’re someone who brings a great attitude to work – positive, practical, and ready to roll up your sleeves. You know payroll inside and out, and you’re comfortable owning the full process, not just a piece of it.
You'll be a great fit if you have:
- Solid end‑to‑end payroll experience, ideally in a fast‑paced environment with monthly or fortnightly pay cycles and annualised salaries
- Confidence using Chris21 (a must), with some exposure to SuccessFactors a bonus
- A strong understanding of payroll legislation – including tax, superannuation, and terminations
- Good Excel skills and a sharp eye for detail
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative, team‑first approach
- A mindset that’s curious, open to change, and always looking for ways to improve
- The ability to take ownership and hit the ground running
What's in it for you?
We want you to be with us for the long‑term, so providing you with rich career experiences and ongoing development is our priority.
- Competitive remuneration – salary continuance, salary sacrifice options
- Great leave benefits – including 18 weeks paid parental leave with super and up to an extra 18 weeks of super paid on further periods of unpaid parental leave, multicultural leave exchange and two extra days to prioritise your wellbeing
- Career progression – underpinned by our exciting pipeline of work that means you’ll have the opportunity to work on iconic projects shaping cities and communities
- Learning and development opportunities – access to emerging talent programs, clear career pathways, and technical and leadership training and development opportunities
- Inclusion, diversity and equity – we work hard everyday to foster a more inclusive culture backed by a business‑wide inclusion strategy and active employee resource groups supporting gender equality and reconciliation
- Flexibility – flexi‑hours, flexi‑parenting, flexi‑leave, flexi‑shifts or flexi‑work, committed to helping our people work flexibly
As part of the team, you help us deliver on our promise to transform lives. Your success is reflected in ours, so we’re committed to being an employer of choice.
We pride ourselves on having a diverse and inclusive workplace because different perspectives and ideas deliver our long‑term success.
